Summer in Madrid is brutal — but at Area you'll work nice and cool 🌿❄️
If you've spent a summer or two in Madrid, you know exactly what I'm talking about. June rolls around, the thermometer starts flirting with 40°C, and suddenly your flat —the very same one that felt like a fridge in winter— turns into an oven. You open a window and hot air rushes in. You lower the blinds and end up working in the dark. You switch on a fan and all it does is shuffle the heat from one side of the room to the other.
And all the while, you're trying to focus on that project, that call, that deadline. Spoiler: nobody thinks clearly at 32 degrees.
Working in the heat isn't just uncomfortable — it's unproductive
It's not just you. Heat genuinely affects us: it's harder to concentrate, you tire more quickly, your brain runs slower. In Madrid, where so many of us work from home and not everyone has air conditioning —or has one that sends the electricity bill through the roof— the summer months can be brutal for productivity.
And here's the thing a lot of people don't stop to consider: running the AC at home all day, just for you, is seriously expensive. In a shared space, that cost is spread across everyone. It's simply more sensible.
At Area, we thought about this from day one
When Jack and I converted this old industrial warehouse into Area, thermal comfort was one of our priorities. We didn't want a beautiful space that then left you sweating (or shivering). So we installed a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient air conditioning system, designed to keep the whole space cool and pleasant even on the most sweltering days of July and August.
On top of that, our huge glass facade with folding doors lets air circulate naturally when we want it to, and our motorised curtains help us control how much sun comes in. The result: a bright, ventilated and —above all— cool space.
Add a cold tea or coffee from our premium machine, the showers for when you turn up sweaty on your bike, and our plants everywhere giving that oasis feeling... and suddenly summer in Madrid becomes a whole lot more bearable. 😊
A place you'll actually want to be in summer
Madrid in summer has its charm —the terraces, the nights, the quieter city— but your working hours don't have to be a punishment. At Area you'll find a place to genuinely focus, surrounded by lovely people, without suffering the heat or worrying about the electricity bill.
If you work from home and don't fancy melting in front of your laptop this summer, come and meet us. We'll treat you to a free trial day so you can see (and feel) the difference for yourself. We're at Calle Tomás Bretón 50-52, in Delicias, three minutes from the metro.
Come and work nice and cool with us. Rufi's waiting for you too 🐶
