September in Madrid: rebuilding a working rhythm after the summer
In Madrid, the new year doesn't start in January. It starts in September.
August empties the city, closes half the street and dismantles whatever routine had been built up over the rest of the year. When the city fills up again, a lot of people find that going back to work isn't as simple as opening the laptop and picking up where they left off.
For freelancers, self-employed professionals and remote workers, the return carries an extra difficulty: there's no office waiting, no imposed schedule, no colleagues setting the pace. The structure has to be rebuilt from scratch. And rebuilding it from home, in September, with the dining table as the only workspace, rarely lasts long.
The problem isn't motivation, it's the framework
The difficulty of getting going in September is usually read as a question of personal discipline. It almost never is. What the summer erodes isn't willpower but framework: a specific place where work happens, specific hours in which it happens, and a clear line between those hours and the rest of the day.

Individual passes: day pass at €22, 5-day pass at €90, 10-day pass at €145. Useful for anyone splitting the week between home, clients and a workspace.
Monthly floating desk: €195 + VAT per month, access 09.00–19.00 Monday to Friday, with a guaranteed space in the main hall.
Monthly fixed desk: €260 + VAT per month, a dedicated 120x60cm desk and 24-hour access Monday to Friday. There is usually a waiting list.
Virtual office: €50 + VAT per month, for anyone who only needs a registered business address, mail reception and some meeting room time.
All memberships include high-speed WiFi, a locker, free tea and coffee, showers, bike parking and monthly credit towards the space's three meeting rooms.
September is also meeting and event season
The return isn't only individual. September and October concentrate the presentations, training sessions, team meetings and planning days that have been postponed for months.
Area has three meeting rooms for groups of up to 8–10 people, with conference cameras and screens, and an event space of almost 100m² with capacity for up to 100 people (65 seated), projector, screen and a sound system with microphone. It works equally well for a talk, a product launch or a team away day, and is available on weekdays from 19h and at any time at weekends.
A neighbourhood that helps
Delicias is arguably at its best in autumn. It's three minutes' walk from Delicias metro and twenty from Atocha, with the Railway Museum and Madrid Río a short stroll away. It's a calm, well-connected barrio without the saturation of the centre, which is worth a great deal when the goal is concentration.
