Busy but quiet: how Area stays calm even on a full house
There's a version of a busy coworking space that nobody wants to be in. You know the one — chairs scraping, phones ringing, someone on a loud video call with no headphones, the general low hum of chaos. That's not Area.
On a full day here in Delicias, when every desk is taken and the meeting rooms are all booked up, there's still something in the air that just feels… calm. It's something visitors notice pretty quickly, and something our members count on.
It starts with the space itself
When Hugo and Jack converted this old warehouse in Madrid into a coworking space, the design wasn't just about looking good (though we'd like to think it does). The 400m² layout was planned so that different kinds of work — and different kinds of people — could coexist without getting in each other's way.
The high ceilings absorb sound in a way that a low-ceilinged office never could. The industrial concrete and glass facade brings in huge amounts of natural light without the glare. And the motorised curtains in the events hall mean we can create more enclosed, intimate zones when needed. It's a workspace that was built to breathe.
The unwritten rules of the room
We don't have a long list of rules pinned to the wall. We don't need one. The kind of people who end up working at Area — freelancers, creatives, small businesses, remote workers — tend to already get it. They're here to focus. They put their headphones on, they take calls in the phone cabins or the corridor, and they leave their colleagues in peace.
It's not that Area is silent. There's always a bit of life — coffee being made, a quiet conversation, the occasional dog padding around (yes, pets are welcome). But there's a difference between a space that feels alive and one that feels like a train station. We're firmly in the first camp.
A coworking space in Madrid that takes your focus seriously
Madrid can be a loud city. If you've ever tried to work from a café in Lavapiés or Malasaña on a busy afternoon, you'll know what we mean. Finding a coworking workspace in central Madrid where you can actually concentrate — not just exist near a plug socket — is harder than it sounds.
Area is three minutes from Delicias metro, which means it's genuinely easy to get to from most of the city. But once you're inside, it feels removed from all of that. A couple of members have told us it's the only place in Madrid where they can reliably get into a proper flow state. We're quietly proud of that.
Small community, big difference
We cap our membership at 60 desks. That's intentional. We've seen what happens to bigger coworking spaces — they stop feeling like communities and start feeling like open-plan offices for strangers. Area is small enough that you start to recognise faces, exchange the occasional word, maybe end up collaborating on something.
But it's also big enough that you don't feel like you're working in someone's living room. The balance matters, and we think about it a lot.
Come and see for yourself 😊
The best way to know if a workspace is right for you is to try it. We offer a free day trial — no commitment, no hard sell. Just come in, grab a coffee, find a desk, and see how it feels.
We're at Calle Tomás Bretón 50-52, 28045 Madrid. You can see photos of the space at www.areamadrid.es/es/galeria or on Instagram @area_madrid.
